Claude in Microsoft 365 — Excel, PowerPoint, Word & Outlook
In plain terms
No more exporting your files to Claude: Claude comes into Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook, as an official side panel. It reads your workbook (formulas included), explains variances, changes assumptions without breaking anything, and adapts your slides while respecting your presentation template. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are generally available; Outlook is in public beta.
One-minute install, like any Office add-in: Home → Add-ins → Store → "Claude by Anthropic".
📖 Contextual Excel reading
Nested multi-tab formulas. Clickable citations to cells.
✏️ Formula-preserving editing
Changes assumptions without breaking dependencies.
🎨 PPT: respects the template
Reads the slide master. Editable native elements. ~85-90% accuracy.
🔌 Financial connectors
S&P Global, LSEG, PitchBook, Moody's, FactSet.
🎯 Example — M&A analyst"Audit this DCF model: check the consistency of the revenue/EBITDA assumptions, identify circular references, propose corrections."
Bonus: enable the "Let Claude work across files" option so it links your Excel and your PowerPoint — the workbook figures feed directly into the slides. Conversation context is shared across apps: Claude follows your work from email to workbook to slides, all in one thread.
📌 Good to knowFile creation (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, PDF) is now open to everyone, including on the Free plan — only the Office add-ins remain reserved for paid plans. And on the claude.ai side, the Microsoft 365 connector can now write: drafting and sending emails, managing calendars, operations on OneDrive and SharePoint.
